The Lower Zambezi National Park on the banks of the Zambezi River, is Zambia's newest National Park. At only 4200 Km2 this is the smallest of the 'Big 3', South Luangwa, Kafue National Park and Lower Zambezi but the addition of the game management area surrounding the park and Mana Pools in Zimbabwe across the river this is actually quite a large protected area.
The park is not as developed as South Luangwa but this does add to the more remote charm. Elephant and buffalo are plentiful thanks to the tireless work of Conservation Lower Zambezi and the lodge owners in the area. Lion and leopard can be seen and very occasionally wild dog have been sighted in the area.
Birdlife is rich with more than 400 species of birds having been recorded.
Most of the park consists of the less accessible high ground of the Zambezi escarpment but most of the game is congregated along the river frontage.
