Best Getting Around in Zambia
Local Recommendations from our My Guide Zambia team
Zambia is a vast country with huge distances between the various tourist destinations.
Depending on time constraints and budget, tourists can travel by scheduled internal flights, charter flights, luxury coach or hire a vehicle. Whilst there are ‘mini buses’ available, these, whilst inexpensive, will be a bit crowded with the very real possibility of a cowboy driver. Within towns the taxi’s are plentiful and generally reliable but do remember to negotiate your fare before you get in to the vehicle. All public transport must have a white number plate with red numbers and coloured band around the vehicle. Public service vehicles stripes vary according to province, including, amongst others: Lusaka (orange), Eastern (emerald green) and Southern (purple amethyst)
