Luwombwa Lodge - Kasanka
Zambia
The Luwombwa Lodge is located approximately 33km's by road from the main Kasanka National Park entrance gate at Mulembo, on the banks of the Luwombwa River in the west of the park.
The lodge consists of 3 A-framed chalets with en-suite bathroom facilities; flush toilet and shower. Two chalets can sleep up to 5 guests (One double bed, 3 single beds; 2 upstairs in a small loft and one downstairs in the main bedroom area). The third chalet sleeps 3 guests (One double bed and one single bed). Each of the chalets overlooks the Luwombwa River and has a small private verandah.
The lodge caters primarily for self-catering guests and is popular with bird watching enthusiasts. A chef will help with preparing meals and camp staff provide hot water for showers whilst the guests relax and enjoy the activities on offer. A gas fridge is available for guest use. A thatched nsaka overlooking the river is popular for enjoying an outdoor lunch or late afternoon sundowner.
Motor boat rides as well as canoeing along the Luwombwa River are offered and enjoyed by birding enthusiasts looking to add Pel's Fishing Owl, Bohm's Bee-Eater, African Finfoot, Narina Trogon and Half-Collared Kingfisher amongst others to their list of checked bird species. When water levels allow, fishing is allowed with guest's required to bring their own fishing tackle and purchasing a fishing license from Wasa Lodge. The excitement and lure of catching a Tiger Fish, large bream or yellowfish on top of the anglers wish list.
Guided walks with an armed escort and / or guide can be arranged. Elephant and Sitatunga are often seen from camp in the grassy plains along the river edges close to camp.
